Yesterday I lost all my speed dials, about 30 of them.
It was after downloading AVG9, or at least starting to do so...I stopped the download for some reason, forgotten which.
When I went for the speed dials, they were all wiped off and I was left with none at all, actually just one which was for the local weather forecast in Bristol...I am in S.Yorks.!!!!!!! don't know where that came from.
Of course , I can remember most of them but there were some unusual ones which had complicated URL's and they have slipped my mind.
I have looked at Mozilla's FAQ's and there appears a very old solution but I don't want to use it because it entails removing certain files and replacing them ...and my experience with removing files is not good news
Any other Firefox users had the same problem.and solved it?
BTW, I have tried a system restore to an earlier date..to no avail.

A system restore wouldn't help - it can only restore your system(!)
Things like bookmarks are just user data, which you should be able to find from your most recent backup.
What method do you use for backing up your system? (If its one I'm familiar with I can try to talk you through recovery.)

I backup my data only every month or so with PCclone which is saved on an external HD.
My last backup will not include the speed dials I saved since then.
Since opening this thread I have laboriously started to try to remember part of the nowmissing URL's and also gone back to "history" to try and find them.
Some success so far.
Thanks for your input.

Firefox Environment Backup Extension
Quote FEBE backs up your extensions, themes, bookmarks, preferences, passwords, cookies and just about everything else Firefox offers (it can even backup/restore your entire profile). You can selectively restore only the items you need. For instance, you may just want your bookmarks restored and leave everything else as it was.

Hi all
I thought I would just get back to tell you about the proper way to restore former speed dials...
I just found that the way to it is.......
Bookmarks>set as speed dial>speed dial options>settings>restore backups
Neat!
cheers

As speed dials are not in bog standard Firefox I presume you've got an add-on - which one?
