Re: File compression on Chrome?

I figured it out

Sudo apt install ffmpeg

The example @Mook wrote still dun't work, although I think that's due to typos in the file name.

Re: File compression on Chrome?

If you just copy the video and audio streams, the filesize will be similar.

That website remuxed your video by compressing it - probably you started with a HD file and you've now got a SD quality or even a DVD quality file.

This is very CPU intensive. An average chromebook would probably take many hours to do this.

BTW

sudo apt install ffmpeg
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
ffmpeg is already the newest version (7:4.1.6-1~deb10u1).

Re: File compression on Chrome?

Remember @MrAllen2021 linux is case sensitive when it comes to file names so myvideo.avi and Myvideo.avi or any case combinations there of can reside in the same directory. Also, try not to use spaces in your filename, they only serve to introduce inconveniences you can do without.

Re: File compression on Chrome?

Any progress on this @MrAllen2021?

Also remember that tab completion's available on the command line, so you can use that to save typing and it helps in getting the right file.
