Hi Folks
I need to convert some FLAC files to either CD quality WAV or MP3.
Can any of you recommend an encoder that will do a great job?
Preferably it should be free, convert files in batches and (hopefully) have a graphic interface rather than CLI.
I did look at winamp with a LAME plug in. Winamp seems to want to take over my machine and the highest rate on the plugin was not enough. For MP3 I want 256k as a minimum.
Cheers

Yes I have and there are, which is why I am looking for a recommendation from someone who has experience of using them.

I quite like MediaMonkey, though I don't know if it does FLAC to MP3 in the free version.
Worth checking out.

I use FLAC Frontend:
http://members.home.nl/w.speek/flac.htm
together with the FLAC codec from:
http://flac.sourceforge.net/
Both are in your price range!

Neil

I'm glad that worked.
It occurs to me that mp3s are not always well tagged when they are converted from a FLAC file. I use mp3tag:
http://www.mp3tag.de/en/
to correctly tag the little devils. If you want some consistency in file naming conventions for your mp3 collection (or anything else) Bulk File Rename Utility is good and powerful, if a little daunting to begin with:
