FF34

Just seen that FF34 is available when checking Help-About Firefox.
On clicking the Update to 34.0 button it changes immediately to Restart to Update with no obvious signs of anything being downloaded. Clicking the button does nothing.
I will restart manually and try again. Anyone else seen this?

Re: FF34

Just restarted FF and still the same.
I wonder if it has anything to do with outstanding Windows updates which still need a PC reboot Undecided
I'll do that later.

Re: FF34

No problem with my laptop so I conclude it's to do with the outstanding Windows updates.

Re: FF34

FF33, had a mess with GC's slowing down my browser, early signs are in FF34, its fixed (I did raise a bug report, but never got confirmation of a fix just they were investigating).
Sadly tho I think its only a matter of time before I ditch firefox, the following things I find stupid to not have in 2014/2015.
No multi process architecture.
No isolation from OS, reduced permissions.
No H264 HTML5 support.
#1, is possibly work in progress, the E10 project, but some plugins will break.  Time will tell if that works ok.
#2 is currently not been done as #1 is a requirement for it.
#3 There is bug reports, and firefox devs will probably be working on it for PR reasons now youtube uses those codecs for 60FPS videos.

Re: FF34

#1 is indeed in progress, Electolosys planned for FF36
I found out about this recently as it's stopped the extension I've developed from working,  and I'm currently in the process of refactoring it to work again.
Hopefully if other extension developers have received similar information it'll limit the amount of disruption caused,  otherwise I exect those extensions would become disabled if not fixed.

Re: FF34

The GC issue isnt fixed, sadly I still have to keep smooth scrolling disabled to mitigate it.

The issue for me will be requestpolicy, great extension but dead development.  The author still posts on discussions about it but keeps repeating he has no time to code anymore.

Re: FF34

How strange...
Today there was an update to 34.0.5 which went through without a hitch even though I still haven't performed a reboot since last week's Windows updates.

Re: FF34

Regarding my stuttering issues I made a new profile and moved everything over, I confirmed that the frequent CC/GC still occurs on a clean profile with no tabs loaded but after I changed the stuttering is way improved, hopefully it remains just about useable as is until E10 goes live.
