Ethernet connection & Password

In a recent post regarding a ethernet connection to a TV someone mentioned a password was only required if it was a wifi connection is that correct ?

I ask because I have a internet radio connected direct to the modem via a ethernet cable but it was necessary to enter the modem password before it would connect.

There are two modem/router passwords. One is exclusively for wireless and the other gets you into the admin pages. So which did the radio require? Has it also got a wireless interface that you aren’t aware of? Try disconnecting the Ethernet lead and see if it still works.
