Re: Ethernet Switch

I think the fault probably lies in either the the long cat5 or the switch.

Can your PC ping your router?

All devices will need to see the router.

Re: Ethernet Switch

Are you able to carry your PC downstairs & plug it in with a short ethernet to your router?

Re: Ethernet Switch

It's likely the switch, then. [I assume the connections were in properly].

Peculiar, because they are normally very reliable.

I assume that you checked the lights on any ethernet ports when it wasn't working.

Re: Ethernet Switch

That's normal for home networks with 192.168.*.* being where devices typically live.

Re: Ethernet Switch

Why are you using wifi for the PC?

Re: Ethernet Switch

i've used WiFi for the pc because i only have the one ethernet cable running upstairs that i split for the bluray and skyq. but i'm having trouble with the WiFi on the Hub1 slow speeds and constant dropouts. so i was wanting an ethernet connection for the pc too.

If i put my laptop beside the hub1 on WiFi i'm only getting 7mbps download and 6mbps upload, i have no idea why. Upstairs on the pc i get 12mbps download but it keeps dropping out.

Re: Ethernet Switch

In case it's a weird DHCP oddity, you could try explicitly specifying the IP, DNS addresses and subnet mask of the network adapter on the PC. Something like the attached should be appropriate.

Re: Ethernet Switch

@celica2012 - Can I suggest that you turn off all of your connected devices, the PC, BluRay and SkyQ and the switch as well.

You might want to take this opportunity to reboot the router while these devices are off. Once the router has restarted turn the devices on starting with the Switch, then the attached devices in any order you want.

Having done this chances are it will all work for you as intended.

Networks can be fickle things, and I've found in the past that this approach is an option that works.

Re: Ethernet Switch

I've fixed it. I've run a second Ethernet cable upstairs so the pc has it own connection straight to the router. Pc now has 45mbps download, the switch then works the BluRay and SkyQ.

Thanks for all the suggestions, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!

Re: Ethernet Switch

This is more like treating the symptom and not the cause. So if you can be bothered, and have the 5 minutes to space you might want too try what I suggested above. I've been there and done that, I know it sounds odd but so is life.
