Erase pics after download from SD card

Windows had a very easy way to download, rename, and erase pics from an SD card, (or direct via wire/usb) to a specified folder, without any further "input" ( once set up).. so it all worked automatically as soon as the card was inserted in the laptop.
Is there a similar prog with Linux?
First time inserting my card. I only get the choice of importing with Gthumb.... which is associated with Gimp,... which I don`t want to use....
I want to store my pics on a daily basis to dated folders in the Pictures ( or specified as  " Digital Camera Downloads 2014") folder, and then use Irfanview for quick viewing and editing.
Don`t want to have to fuss about, doing 5 operations, when I used to do 1, before I can access/edit pics

If you allow gthumb to move them then it will do what you want. You don't have to use gimp to edit them. And gthumb is NOT associated with gimp. Gthumb is GnomeThumb not GimpThumb.

So... will Gthumb ( sorry for linking it to Gimp).. actually delete the pics from the card after downloading them?

Yep, that's what I use. It automatically opens when I insert a <card/camera> and offers to import them, if you import then it removes them from the device.

digiKam will download and put pictures into separate albums.
Not sure about auto-delete - but its easy to select those pictures/videos you want to delete off the card.

Re: Erase pics after download from SD card

@HB.... ok.. thanks for that... will give it a try next time I have some pics....
Have installed DigiKam..... no problem.... some quite interesting tools on that prog.... it will do as a replacement to Photo Pos Pro, which. I can get partly working... ( it freezes on the opening screen at  " loading layers window " ) can`t seem to find a way around that...
Also installed "Rapid Photo Downloader"..... maybe not needed now...
Point of interest... how do I "uninstall" stuff on Mint 16 ..... if there isn`t an Uninstall .exe file .... do I just delete it from "program files" ?
Thanks.  Wink

Re: Erase pics after download from SD card

NO!!!
You uninstall the package(s) used to install the programs.
Two varieties of this:-
A plain uninstall will leave any system settings used by the programs untouched (in the /etc directory)
A purge install will remove both programs and system settings.
I hope you installed things with a package installer?
If you downloaded the source code and compiled it, you have a lot of trouble.
