Does your printer have a static ip address?
It makes it easier to know if you can see it or not.
You can always allocate a name in your /etc/hosts file.

Must admit I have never tried installing a wifi printer.
Assumptions:-
Your lt is connected somehow to the same network (wifi or cable)
Your printer is on and has an ip address, maybe something you could print on it like a status page will show this.
Open Admin/Printing
Select New
Select Network Printer
Select HP/JetDirect (OR try HP Printer)
Under host enter the ip address found above
If that fails try the Ubuntu Forums there may be someone who has the same printer.

Hi, Mike, and welcome to the forums.
May I suggest, however, and in the gentlest way possible, that it is probably not worth responding to a thread three months after the problem has been solved :).
