Email problem

I recently bought a new computer.
Everything appears to be working fine after a few gltches, mainly through my lack of knowledge
(and some grand info from you guys).
However I've just discovered that after I receive Emails from friend or family my replies to these Emails
are not being received by them.
Before I start tinkering about with it, and probably make things worse, could someone give me
a wee inkling as to what I should do to remedy the situation.

Re: Email problem

Here's the email set-up guide:
http://www.plus.net/support/email/setup/outlook_express.shtml
Check that the outgoing mail server is set to relay.plus.net
If that doesn't work, delete the account and start again from the beginning.

Re: Email problem

Thanks Reed,
give it a go tonight.
I'm thinking that cos the new Dell computer came with Vista
installed, thats possibly got something to do with it.
I liked XP and prefer O/E rather than the new mail set up.
Anyway thanks again.
Roy.

Re: Email problem

So when you said you were using Outlook Express you meant to say you were using Windows Mail.  I did wonder about that but you can still buy netbooks running Windows XP.  The instructions for setting up an email account are the same either way.

Re: Email problem

Thats a neg Reed.
Don't ask me how but I have actually managed to install
and am using Outlook Express.
I did what you said and it appears that I am now
able to send replies and get them through.
Many thanks but hey....don't move away,
I'll probably need a wee bit more help.
Regards,
Roy.

Re: Email problem

Tonight, Iam am unable to send or receive e-mails. I am however   still able to surf the web no problem.
Do plus net have a problem with this at the moment .?? I did look under server status but did not find anything  to say so.
P.s apologies. Just noticed under Server  Status  that it's on Amber (yellow) and 14+ hrs  I presume that  means we  do have a problem

Problems accessing webmail (57865) - UPDATE
Email
Posted on: Tuesday 18 August 2009, 17:39
This is an update to the previous announcement regarding the problems that some of our customers have been experiencing when trying to retrieve email.
Our Network engineers have spent the day trying to replicate and fix the problem and believe that it is related to load on one of our switches. The switch in question has since been reloaded, but does not as of yet appear to have resolved the problems that have been experienced over the last 24 hours.
We're continuing to monitor and investigate and will supply a further update tomorrow.
Please accept our apologies for any continued inconvenience.
Kind regards,
James Bailey

Well I have not been able to access email all morning and I am on PCL-AG03 at the moment, if it stays down will have to try switching gateways later.

If you are having difficulty browsing to any of our websites or are having difficulties collecting your email then we suggest that you reboot your modem or router which might temporarily resolve the problem if you connect to a different gateway.
These problems seem to be only affecting those connected to our 'PCL' gateways.
You can check what gateway you're connected to here - http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway

This is an update to yesterday's announcement about the problems some customers are having accessing our Webmail service.
As the problem is believed to be affecting other services such as access to our website and FTP servers, we have taken the decision to start a separate Service Status thread.
Please see the announcement titled 'Problems accessing Plusnet-hosted websites and servers (57865)' for further updates to this problem.
