I have Vista/Windows Mail and I know that I can back up whole folders from C/Users/ApplicationData etc but when I do this the e-mails lose their subject heading (replaced with numbers/letters).
Can anyone please recommend software that will preserve the format of Windows Mail?
Don't mind paying but hopefully not too much.

I don't use Windows Mail but a quick Google showed that the files are stored here C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Window... Mail\Local Folders\ account{whatever #'s}.oeaccount file
and looking on my Vista machine it looks like this picture .
What I would do is use SyncToy http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=50FA5932-0685-4FE3-9605-536F39BD6C86&displa... and set it to backup the whole folder group using the contribute option
