Well this is one reason why we shouldn't. OK - maybe a 10 year old piece of domestic equipment - but with cheap electronic equipment - do we really trust it to be powered up when people are sleeping in the premises.
It's not like commercial premises with fire detection etc and nobody sleeping.
Faulty TV caused tower block fire

Quote from: Heloman Just out of curiosity, why?
No - unplugged every night.
Would you leave your Sea King powered up overnight - or turn everything off at the Master switch
rhetorical question - I know the answer !

We are a notebook (and netbook) only household these days, and our home browsing needs are fairly modest; thus we turn off computers overnight.
Router is a 24/7 affair though, as is the Sky decoder, television, surround sound amp, refrigerator, freezer and central heating control system.
Oh yeah, smoke alarm and doorbell, as well as intruder alarm and home phone too.
Except for those few, we turn off everything else.
Except the Wii.
And anything else I forgot.
What was the questions again?

Outside lights are "always on" too, during the day the monitoring is powered and checking that its still too dark to require additional illumination.
As an aside, the censored word above is a colloquial term for anal sex (which seems an acceptable phrase...)
Beggar, with a U instead of E.
[me=James_G]wonders which is a less offensive definition... ???[/me]

Within the last ten years - I have stayed at very nice small hotels.
Two such hotels - burnt down and it was later proved to be electrical equipment - be it TV, fridge - washing machine...
Oh and I went through Kings Cross station - got off a main line train and onto the underground - just 30 minutes before the infamous Kings Cross fire.
Yes fridges, freezers are designed for 24/7 - but cheap and chearful electronics ?
just ask your local fire brigade
