Diskeeper 2010 replacement?

I was forced to upgrade when changing from Vista to win7 as the then 2009 didn't run on win7, so I am currently using 2010 v913.  My gut feeling is they are now a Norton method clone, as in slapping on a new years badge to milk it.
So with the same pc and fresh install of windows I am finding that 913 build just isn't working anymore.  It just fails to keep HDD as fast as it used to be, so looking for a replacement so haven't a clue of what is a competitor, as Diskeeper has always been the one to get so looking for recommendations.

Re: Diskeeper 2010 replacement?

If you want a good defragmentatiojn tool I use MyDefrag.
It is freeware. I use it in preference to the commercial products including Diskeeper

Re: Diskeeper 2010 replacement?

Two suggestions:
http://www.piriform.com/defraggler (from the same people who provide the well respected CCleaner)
http://www.iobit.com/iobitsmartdefrag.html has a background defrag when idle option that seems to work well
Both are free.

I use Laplink Defrag, it seems to work ok.

Re: Diskeeper 2010 replacement?

you should try DK 2011 Pro with Intelliwrite, prevents a lot of fragmentation, and is SSD aware.  We use this in our office, and it works well with the Win 7 systems.  Your 913 build is not the final 2010 release, you might want to download the last update.
@ Home I use Perfect Disk 12 and when i work on friends and family systems, I use Defraggler and the rest of the Piriform range of utils.  PD is a good program, which i invested in many years ago, and you can do a free trial if you wish to see if it's better than DK.

Re: Diskeeper 2010 replacement?

913 is the last build and has been for 8 months or so as they stopped supporting 2010 with 913 released during December last year.  I've had no replies after asking them if it will ever be patched again, but they do want to spam my inbox with upgrade offers to 2011.
So far so good with Smart Defrag, its holding its own with my browsers cache as I have no TV so use all on demand sites going.  That is something which Diskeeper started to fail at keeping up with, when I have to manually run a defrag once a week for Diskeeper thats not good.

Re: Diskeeper 2010 replacement?

I stopped using Diskeeper when I heard their senior management were tied into Scientology. I don't know if that is still the case, but being a firm believer in conspiracy theories I'd hate to have their software running on my personal/business PC. Excuse me while I don my aluminium foil hat.
