I Have had the following message appear several times during bootup,
Disk needs to be checked for consistency.
There is a item on the Microsoft website which suggests going into system tools, shceduled tasks and deleting either chkdsk or autochk.
Neither of these files appear in scheduled tasks.
Any advice where I go from here ?
Windows 7 32 bit.

if everything fails
set the disk dirty check flag to off again by using
your Windows copy disk and when its loaded run the command prompt
then type
Chkdsk /f which starts up a run regardless of flag state to ensure that errors are fixed. the problem should stop after you manually run the command and let it finish once cleanly.

So you know this isn't a scheduled event, there is a real problem with your hard disc. Does the autochk process actually run? Does it finish successfully? Does it report finding and correcting errors?

I'm not convinced it's a hard disk issue as I have Windows 7 on 2 computers and both have come up with this message on the odd occassion.
After it's scanned through everything I don't get any messages that anything has been repaired and windows then continues to boot normally.
Not too clear on what you mean by using the Windows copy disk.........If I put this in will it not ask me if I want to reinstall windows ? or can I just ignore this and just type Chdsk/f and everything will run from there ?
The last thing I want to do is reinstall windows.
When you mention command prompt do you mean just type Chdsk/f in the run box.

Giro,
Thanks for the further info.
Will do as you suggest. I feel fairly sure some other program has reset something.
Thanks
