DIrectX Confusion

I have W7 which is DirectX11 compatible.
My GPU also has directX 11 capabilities (Radeon 6750).
DXDIAG shows the version as DirectX 11
When I try to install a paricular program to trial it a get a message informing me that it requires Direct X version June 2007 or later and gives me a link to M$ to download a version. But as I already have 11 installed I ignore this but then when I attempt to run the program I get the message

The program can't start because d3dx9)34.dll is missing from your computer.

So, does that mean I should install DirectX 9 as well as having 11 installed?
Edit: A little more research shows that I do need to install 9 and it will run alongside 11.

Or download the dll from www.dll-files.com and see if that sorts it out.
BTW I only found d3dx9_43.dll.

The download contains the required .dll files. It won't change the version of DirectX, it just installs all the d3dx{9,10,11}_NN.dll files. I can't remember the official name for them, but they are some kind of extensions released every few months.
I don't think it's a particularly great idea to download things from some third party site.

www.dll-files.com is an old established source of dll files from where I have downloaded many in the past with no problems.

yup alto most games require dx11 some still need dx9  , so in most cases when you install game it asks for 9  so just install and it adds the extension  you require
