DHCP Discover on EeePC

I was OK connecting my machine to every thing - sometimes open, most time WEP.
My old router was a speedtouch 2110 with WEP, no problem
Now upgraded? to thompson and WPA.  Cant get it to connect - tries DHCP discover numerous times then says connection Pending
I have tried Googling it, The answer is a bit above me.  can anyone help.  Is it the range of the IP on the thompson?
It does connect OK via ethernet.   and finds the router and channel OK
PS I also have an Archos, no problem, XP laptop no problem

Re: DHCP Discover on EeePC

Having a quick scout around looks like it won't do WPA out of the box.
Here seems to be some fairly straight forward instructions that might help it connect:

Re: DHCP Discover on EeePC

That looks like it.
Silly really as the set up screen click down has WEP and WPA enabled and lets you type in the passcode  oh well at home have to use Ethernet.
My own risk at root level on Linux is nill

Re: DHCP Discover on EeePC

My eeePC (701) works fine with WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)
Which version of WPA is your router set up to use?

Re: DHCP Discover on EeePC

Well that could certainly restrict things, my WPA key would need to be changed..

Thanks adie - those instructions look spot on for any Debian based distro (such as Ubuntu  Smiley )
I'm getting the Thompson router.
When I was a Wireless virgin, I opted to go for WEP - but I can now have the experience of WPA.
I do have another howto - but it's a bit generalised.

That seems to indicate that you've got spaces in your passphrase. In that case it would seems that you will have a problem...
Either do the simple mod to the config file as indicated here http://rejon.org/2008/04/eeepc-wpa-fix/ or even simpler , change your passphrase to not have any spaces. If you do that dont forget that you will need to put the new passpharase into the Archos and Xp systems.
