Creating a WEP key for Netgear router

I was just wondering what I have to do? I don't have a clue. At the moment my access is unsecure and I want to create a key so what do I need to do?
Thanks.

Re: Creating a WEP key for Netgear router

Sign into your router at http://192.168.0.1
select wireless settings on the left hand side
under security options select WPA-PSK as WEP is not secure
Under WPA-PSK Security Encryption create yourself a password and hit 'Apply'

but do it on a wired connection, as if you do the router before the PC you are completely stumped, no connection. if you are connected via ethernet you get another chance

Re: Creating a WEP key for Netgear router

make up a strong password composed of letters, numbers and symbols about 10 to 15 characters long.  you'll probably need to write it down and keep it somewhere safe.
when you connect wirelessly, after fixing up the router, you need to enter the password to get onto the net.

Use https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm to generate a strong key.

Re: Creating a WEP key for Netgear router

If I remember the router lets you put in a phrase which it will convert to a key so you can put I like cats and dogs with onions and tomatoes that gives you a good key.
If you want a good key try looking at the url when logging into plus net as it gives a session which is complicated password or the url for this post is =post;topic=71341.0;num_replies=4 all good none guessable passwords
