Connection speed indicator

When I am connected to the internet there is normally an indicator icon in the system tray in the shape of two tv screens which flash and when you hover over them indicate at what speed you are connected.  A day or so ago when I connected this icon no longer shows in the system tray.  I use a speed touch modem to connect to the internet and have always done so.  Can anyone say why the icon has suddenly disappeared and how do I get it back.  Normal PC using Windows XP
best wishes

Re: Connection speed indicator

Is there a little icon that looks like a less than sign?
This should show some hidden icons and it may be hiding there?

Re: Connection speed indicator

Make sure it's set to show in Network Connections.
Start > Control Panel > Network Connections.
Right click the currently-used network connection and click Properties. Tick the "Show icon in notification area when connected" box in this window.
