Connecting to outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server relay.plus.net

Hello.
My OS is Mac OS 10.5.
My mail application is Mail.
My ISP is Plus Net - but only since yesterday.
I have a Plus Net e-mail account and two other non-PlusNet e-mail accounts. I am receiving e-mail using all three e-mail accounts. I am unable, however, to send any e-mail. I have configured the software to use (for all three accounts) PlusNet's outgoing (SMTP) mail server relay.plus.net. Something called "Mail Connection Doctor" tells me, among other things:
"Could not connect to this SMTP server. ...verify that the server accepts connections on port 465."
DOES the server accept connections on port 465?
How can I verify that it does so?

Re: Connecting to outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server relay.plus.net

The server does not accept connections on the port quoted. It does however on the standard SMTP port 25.
In sounds like you have your mail client to connect using a SSL secure connection.
You need to disable this setting and inform it to use port 25.
This can be done by visiting the account setting and clicking "server settings" below the outgoing mail server dropdown.
Disable (untick) the SLL checkbox and ensure the server port returns to 25.

Thank you for your reply Phil.
Adjusting the setting to port 25 has done the trick; I can now send e-mails from all 3 accounts.
(My mail application was not in fact set to use SSL.)
