Computer Supplier for flat screens
Can anyone suggest a reasonably good, but cheap supplier for a flat screen?
Mine seems to be on the way out (only two years old), so I'm looking for a replacement that should not cost too much more than £100.
Ideally it will be wide screen - perhaps 22" - although I realize that I'll probably have to settle for 19" at that price.

Warranty support on ViewSonic is good, I have returned about a dozen in the last year

I'm truly spoilt for choice.
I suspect that the reason my current screen is dying is that I've left it switched on
for the last two years (either on or on standby).
I do that to CRT's and I've got one that's fine after 5 years another that's OK after about 7 years.
To make it go I have to switch it off and on again when I want to use it.
I suspect I'll also have to replace my SVGA cable.

It's still holding out - which is why I'm still deferring buying a new screen.
I generally leave it on standby overnight.
When I power on the PC, the screen gets kicked into action.
It displays the DRMI dettings (with a background picture),
Then the BIOS loads in the settings for my SCSI drive.
Then it goes black (this is normal).
It should then switch from a character style screen to full SVGA to display a graphical the loading bar for my Linux (Ubuntu) OS.
[The OS loads correctly - but the screen appears dead].
The Power light for the screen pulses during this dead period.
If I switch off the screen for a few seconds, and back on it fixes the problem.
This fix keeps the screen operational for the rest of the session.
I don't feel up to delving into monitor power supplies (even flat screen ones)!

I will try it - the problem is that once "fixed" even switching the PC off for a couple of hours,
then restarting usually results in a "fixed" state (i.e. no special action is necessary).
I haven't tried booting in low graphics mode either.
"High" video should be 1280 x 1024 (75Hz I think).

When the screen is blank does holding down the Ctrl and Alt keys together then repeatedly pressing - or + cause anything to be displayed (this switches between any modelines in the X config file)?

Unfortunately it didn't help - but it's a useful thing to know - I'll add it to my list of useful tips.

I've bought my self a wide screen 22" Iiyama screen for about £130
Came with all connectors etc so I have replaced my VGA connections with DVI
Hoping that Iiyama's flat screens are as good as their CRT's.
