Computer Rebuild

I'm considering modernising my PC and have looked at various motherboards.
I don't do gaming on my PC but do some video editing.
I'm sticking a budget of £150 for the motherboard, fully understanding that the CPU will be substantially more.
I've looked at a Gigabyte board teamed up with an i5 chip.
Any personal experiences welcome.

Re: Motherboard Suggestions

I really like the Gigabyte ultra durable boards
But why are you going for the Z97X as opposed to an H97 unless you intend to overclock or intend to go for multiple GPU's

Re: Motherboard Suggestions

You got me Undecided
No, it was just an example and I won't be over-clocking.
I need full SSD support and the Z97X offers SATA Express support for 10 Gb/s data transfer.
A bit of background info:
I'm having daily blue screens and the error messages suggest a problem with the Marvell 6G interface feeding my SSD.
I have installed the latest drivers but they are dated 2010.
I'm looking to update the hardware in the hope that this and a fresh install of windows will fix the problem.

Re: Motherboard Suggestions

I'm also an ASUS fan (and a convert from Gigabyte), I believe ASUS have the edge on quality at most price points currently (well, recently at least since I last built 3 PCs in the autumn (2 ASUS and 1 Gigabyte).

Re: Motherboard Suggestions

if you looking to upgrade your system you could go for something like this http://www.box.co.uk/Cube_Turbo_Gamer_System_1730065.html
sure its a duel core cpu but according to various reviews its cheap and does the job just as well as some of the higher priced stuff especially if you pair it with intel centric programs for video editing

Re: Motherboard Suggestions

Anybody going for a dual core and wants to play modern games is in for a big surprise as they won't run on it

Re: Motherboard Suggestions

indeed OJ but Strat already said he doesn't play games so it might be a good option for him especially with the billy bonus of being able to sell that idiotically powerful gfx card and use a cheaper more suitable one for his needs

Re: Motherboard Suggestions

However
The one thing which hasn't been mentioned is what the present system is
If it isn't too old the existing motherboard may well support a faster dual core processor
Although I don't do video editing my impression is that video editor use all four cores so a 4 core would be much better than a dual core

Re: Motherboard Suggestions

This is the one I picked for my mate a few months back Strat,

I know you said you aren't into gaming but my last ROG board lasted me over 5 years (and still going strong) before I built my new ROG system.
Good luck with your choice.
