I just had a problem with Skype gobbling loads of CPU even when I was not actively using it. The workaround was to stop using Chrome as the default browser. Firefox and Internet Explorer were suitable alternatives.
I don't suppose there is any connection with Microsoft now owning Skype.

I believe there is a Skype add-on in Chrome, maybe it was misbehaving with each other?
That's RPM to you!!

I'd already disabled the Skype add-on in Chrome. The CPU munching started out of the blue, had to use taskmgr to spot it when my PC's cpu fan started racing to cool the processor. Unfortunately both Chrome and Skype do silent updates so it is difficult to work out which one triggered the problem.

I would suspect chrome.
I did notice yesterday slight cosmetic changes with chrome, so it must have updated.
