CD Autostart

Seem to have installed something on my computer which is preventing CD/DVDs from auto running but I can't remember how to switch this back on.
Other problem is that external drive is not coming on automatically... easy enough to activate these things using windows explorer but I would rather just switch the auto run back on.
Thanks

Re: CD Autostart

Assuming XP.
Open Regedit
locate
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionpolicies
delete the NoDriveTypeAutoRun value

Re: CD Autostart

Thanks for that but I am only half way there.
The external drive now loads up fine but the internal cd/dvd still refuses to auto start disks.

Digging a bit further on that linky..... (check out the column on the right hand side of the page) I found this

Re: CD Autostart

All sorted now via the microsoft help page,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom
1. Double-click Autorun and see whether a zero or a one is displayed in the Value data box.
o If the value for Autorun is 1, go to step 5.
o If the value for Autorun is 0, right-click Autorun, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
3. Double-click NoDriveTypeAutoRun to see its value. If the value is 0xb5, the AutoRun feature for CD-ROMs is turned off. To turn on the AutoRun feature, follow these steps:
a. Right-click NoDriveTypeAutoRun.
b. Click Modify.
c. In the Value data box, type 91.
d. Select Hexadecimal, and then click OK.
Exit Registry Editor.
Thanks for your responses
