CCleaner

I just started using CCleaner again for general cleanups
I notice that it now includes a facility to wipe free space
I've heard from various sources that its not reliable and can wipe wanted as well as unwanted data.
I don't know how reliable those sources are. Maybe just scaremongers
I've always had the impression that Piriform who created it have a very good reputation
Has anyone had any experiences that they can share on the subject?

Re: CCleaner

Hi,
Can't help with CCleaner, but have you looked at Glary Utilities by Glary Software?

Re: CCleaner

I use CCleaner with great success but not the wipe free space. To my mind unless you are getting rid of the computer there isn't any need to erase the free space.

Re: CCleaner

Surely wiping the free space would help the computer to run more smoothly?.
Until you do nothing is actually deleted. It's all still there. The deleted files merely become hidden until they are overwritten by new files.
Wiping the free space therefore should reduce clutter
That's my idea anyway. Maybe I'm just being too thorough
What do you think?

Re: CCleaner

Wiping the free space will only be useful to prevent files being undeleted. It will do nothing whatsoever to make your computer run more smoothly.

Re: CCleaner

Totally agree, wiping the free space won't do anything for your PC performance.
