CCTV

Been looking at getting a CCTV but am unsure which is best way , i was looking at WIFI cameras to connect to my DSL ac68u and have my USB hard drive connected to the router as storage or the Camera .
is this possible or is there another way ?

one option i played with was using a raspberry pi with camera module.
it had a web interface where you look at live pictures, and motion sensor so that is started recording when it detected motion (could take photos and video).
photos and videos were viewable from the web ui.
it was a cheap option and worked reasonably well.
the entire kit was installed inside a dummy cctv camera housing so that it looked like the real thing.

IP Cameras plus NVR software on a PC or a networked DVR will do fine...
