Bulk rename file utilities

I often have to rename groups of files - actually images for use on websites.
I know that Win XP does it - but it annoyingly adds a space and then puts the number between brackets - and I've long been told NOT to have spaces in website file names.
I've done the normal google search and there seem a large number of utilities available
But can anyone please recommend one that they have found good to use and reliable.

Re: Bulk rename file utilities

IrfanView will do a batch rename of image files but having not used that facility I'm not certain what it does with the file names, but it's free

You specify what filename format you want when batch renaming.

That would rename your chosen images 'renamed_image001.jpg', 'renamed_image002.jpg', 'renamed_image003.jpg' etc.
Works pretty well.

Re: Bulk rename file utilities

Many thanks - that gives me a few to try.

I normally do it manually - but I've been sent about 200 photos to put online !
- all at the correct size so no need to put through Photoshop.

Yes I know P-P, but I have a licence for Photoshop from way back,
but I'll give IrfanView a go too .

And I have a legal copy of Paintshop pro, but prefer Irfan for some jobs

Re: Bulk rename file utilities

Indeed - I tried it as well as the one you recommended.
In fact I'm going to install IrfanView on the "office"  laptop as that has no image processing other than the very basic Vista program !.

Re: Bulk rename file utilities

If you need to resize pics, search out Fast Image Resizer..... (by Adionsoft)
you set the size in OPTIONS, and the destination folder (make it a sub folder of original) and you just drag and drop the files on it.... the resized files have the size added to the original file name, and are in the subfolder "Resized"....
Very Fast, and Very good
Oh yes,  Irfanview, is good for batch re-name.... (can`t remember if it will do batch re-size)

Re: Bulk rename file utilities

Great little program Irfanview. Have used it for years and far better than what M$ ships with its products.
