Browse the first website using the line-mode browser simulator

Bring back green screens!

An emulation of the first web page.

I used to write programs on screens like this, in the previous century...

"In The Beginning Was The Word, And The Word Was Aardvark."

Re: Browse the first website using the line-mode browser simulator

You can always go dark! Cheesy

Having someone nearby who has had a major eye problem last couple of months, I never realised just how bad having a white screen could be for them. Even turning the brightness down was no help at all. I had to go find an addon (Midnight Lizard) for FF to give them some hope. And the best for them? Green and black! The founding fathers were right all along.

In some respect OS seems to have gone backwards. Once you could set nigh on every part of the screen to the colour that you wanted. Now its very limited in lots of ways.

Ever helpful. Grin Sure, I’d love to help you out. Now which way did you come in?

Back in the days for programming (using assembly code of course) we all wanted to use the expensive DEC VT200  monitors with their green phosphor.

An example of a relatively modern green screen emulator running on a PC looks like this:-

Note the use of colour...

The VT220 came in amber or green.

I recall the keyboard had the facility to hold a text string in one of the function keys.  Commonly used for username/password.
