Boot Problem

My PC does not boot at all when I switch it on.
If I turn the machine off and on and try several times it may eventually work.
I thought it was a graphics card issue but I was wrong.
any ideas please.

Can you be a it more specific? What exactly happens when you try to turn it on? If nothing at all happens you probably have a faulty switch in the front of the case, which sometimes makes contact and gets going.

Which is it? Doesn't ever work or does sometimes?
If the latter it could be a faulty switch or failing power supply.
Please give more details of EXACT symptoms, e.g. lights, noises, etc. etc.

The PC will power on ( Green light appears & you can clearly hear that that the machine is on. The noise seems normal but then there is no whirling noise which indicates the boot process)
The screen says no signal (black screen)
I will turn off the PC wait a couple of seconds then turn it on again - same thing.
Do this loads of times without any boot messages appearing on the screen.
I left the PC off for 10 minutes and tried again but nothing. It seems to have got worse all of a sudden.
I left it for a few hours and then tried again and it booted.
I then restarted it but nothing (apart from the usual power on and green light)
Very strange stuff

I'd just replace the power supply with a higher-rated one.
It might not be the problem, but they're cheap enough and the most likely problem.
First I'd just reseat the memory firmly and try again.
No "beeps"?

Would this still be necessary even though the power comes on?

I get a "beep" when I first turn on the machine - if that's what you're asking about - but no other "beeps" to mention of.

Do you hear any fans spinning up?  Does the machine power down itself or do you switch it off...
You could try resetting the CMOS memory, there is usually a jumper on the MOBO that resets the CMOS.  It may not help, but if you are not getting to the BIOS, then I dont think its a software issue. 
As HP Sauce suggested, try reseating the RAM, and the graphics card, if you have a separate one, if you are getting no signal, maybe a video issue, but to be honest may be a number of things.  If you left it for a bit an it booted, it could (and I mean could) be the CPU overheating, as soon as you turn on.  You need to see if the CPU fan is spinning when you switch on. If it isnt then this may be the cause.
Try these first them post back if it dosnt work.
