Blackberry not connecting to router

My children are unable to connect their Blackberrys to the home network with this new router(Thomson 582?)  . With the previous router (585?) all they had to do was scan for available networks and then when ours appeared they put in the password.

But with this one when you scan and try to connect you get the message "this wireless router supports wi-fi protected setup. To connect using a PIN (which your Blackberry will generate), click Next". Then when you click Next you get an 8 number code. it doesn't give you the opportunity to put in the network password.

Please tell me how to connect the Blackberrys to our network. thanks

I have the same problem with my Thomson 585 (v7).
Has noone got a solution?

Re: Blackberry not connecting to router

Try switching off WPS.
Home Network > Your wireless network (actual name will vary, it will be shown towards the top of the right-hand pane) > Configure (top-right) > Remove the tick from 'WPS Protected' and then apply the changes.

Re: Blackberry not connecting to router

Would that not make it insecure? Or is that completely different from being WPS unprotected?

Re: Blackberry not connecting to router

Nope, as long as WPA/PSK is still enabled you're fine.

Re: Blackberry not connecting to router

On my TG585 V7 there is no box to tick for WPS protection. For the Security heading I have :
Broadcast Network Name box - tick/untick
Allow new devices - with a scroll down menu (ihave this set to automatically)
Encryption which has three choices :
Disabled
Use WEP encryption
Use WPA-PSK encryption
After that there is a box for WPA-PSK encryption key (i.e.Wireless Key supplied with router)
and a scroll down menu for WPA-PSK version : choices are WPA or WPA2 or WPA+WPA2
I'm not sure how to disable WPS from these choices.

Re: Blackberry not connecting to router

You could try upgrading to a firmware version that supports WPS? It can probably be enabled via telnet commands but I'm not that well versed.

Re: Blackberry not connecting to router

Thanks Bob - Hopefully that will work but at the moment probably not worthwhile as my network provider (vodafone) has very flaky performance in my home. When I use up my current small balance on my PAYG I'll switch over to Orange which has very good coverage on my wife's mobile.
