Billion 8800NL

any bad points about this router?
only 1 gigabit port could be a down point, but can work around that.
combined ADSL/VDSL a good point.
is it a fairly stable modem?

Re: Billion 8800NL

Very stable on FTTC
Easy to monitor stats
DHCP/ARP is a bit dodgy at times

Re: Billion 8800NL

In pasing, the links OJ has given would be od more use to OP and others but for
"You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post."
Seems Billion like to keep some things close to the corporate chest.
No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Re: Billion 8800NL

To be fair, the kitz link is just issues reported by you.

Re: Billion 8800NL

But the Billion links aren't
However you are at liberty to ignore my comments and otherwise the router is very good
Setting up a guest wifi has an odd quirk but if you don't need that option you can ignore it and that was where most of the DHCP problems start

Re: Billion 8800NL

Mine's been rock solid since I got it!
Regarding the one gigabit port - I just routed that into my SamKnows box which is all gigabit and connected all the PC's and shared drives to that.
Anything connected to the outside world (TVs and PVRs) are all on the 8800NL!

Re: Billion 8800NL

they will be releasing the 8900 in a few weeks on the UK market, so it might be worthwhile waiting for that before buying the 8800nl if you need more gigabit ports, I don't know what the pricing will be although i'm sure someone will have posted it somewhere

Re: Billion 8800NL

As I understand it the 8900 will be a replacement for the 8800AXL and one would imagine that it will be a similar price (circa. £130) and hence not comparable with the 8800NL which is staying in production

Re: Billion 8800NL

yes it would, and its got better specs than the 8800nl has, just as the 8800axl has better specs than the 8800nl has, hence my post, if the specs of the 8800nl aren't quite up to scratch then rather than jumping to get one today wait a few weeks and see what the pricing of the more fully featured higher spec'd unit will be rather than buy now and regret not waiting a few more weeks /

Re: Billion 8800NL

They aren't "up to scratch" only if you need the extra bits and many of us with older kit don't and my point is still that the 8900 is replacing the 8800AXL (now out of stock just about everywhere) and the new line up will be the 8900AXL (presumably) and the 8800NL the price differential will remain

Re: Billion 8800NL

if you use the guest wifi network don't login to both the isolated guest network and the normal household network from the same device, otherwise its shouldn't be much more than copy the settings from your old router to you new one /
