Could anyone recommend something is fast and reliable for Plusnet - Im told Netgear and Billion are good but is this just brand snobbery. Am looking to pay up to £100 ish.
Am running OSX leopard with 2 other macs on home network. (if this matters) and want something ADSL2 compatible.
Thanks in advance

As you'll be using ethernet or wireless then any router will be fine with your Macs.
I run a windows / os x / linux mix with a netgear router and it all works well.
The question is what do you want from your router aside from ADSL2?
If it's just that then look at the DG834G for around 50.
If you want gigabit ethernet and wireless N then your choices are limited somewhat.

It doesn't matter what OS you use - or even a mixture of them.
Home routers - for some reason - don't seem to follow the usual rule that the more you pay, the better the product.
Some routers have a good web interface and some don't.
Netgear are highly regarded - particularly for long lines.
Plusnet will give you a generic type router for a 12 month contract and £7 p&p - you might as well try it, although you will have to spend extra time understanding the UI.

What I need is something that is fast (important) and works well with Plus.
Not sure if Plusnet works better with some router/modems than others.
Have currently got a Belkin which is ok but drops signal from time to time
Have heard that Netgear are reliable and have good range but can be slow - anyone any views on this ?

I have had 2 netgears and in terms of wireless and speed they are fine.
As I mentioned the DG834G or GT are well worth a look and are well liked round these forums.

I am very happy with my DG834G v4 - with this model you also tweak the noise margin using DMT or Routerstats as well as having detailed logging of the various parameters which is ideal for fault finding. However I believe that will only work on a Mac in emulation mode

Yeah you can get it to work with WINE at a push, but you can also use the DGTeam firmware for SNR tweaking.

It doesn't work like that.
All routers work with ADSL that comes over the BT lines - it doesn't matter who your ISP is.
The CPU in all routers works fast enough to route packets without losing them.
So speed is (unimportant).
