Best Modem or Modem/Router to improve VDSL speed? Other tips to increase performance?

Following on from my recent thread discussing my line speed being below PN and BT estimates and there being nothing more that Plusnet can do to help, is there a modem or modem/router that might help eek out the last bit of speed?

Is there anything else I can do or try that might help to improve line speed?

 @vultura, I run dual Vigor 130 xDSL Modems, they're not the cheapest but I've got no complaints about them. In fact I bought them for they very same reason as you are asking.

They are certainly not cheap, may well consider one if my latest acquisition doesn't work out.
