Basic domain advice please

Hi (I'm a website noob, so bear with me)

I'm learning how to make a website on word press and I need a domain.

On my plusnet account, under 'your .co.uk domain option' - I have an option to 'opt in', and 'register a .co.uk domain for an extra £1 per month'.

Before I sign up, I just want to confirm that this is the correct option for me, and it will enable to create a website using wordpress, using the www. address of my choice, and make it available to people over the internet.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Basic domain advice please

The standard Plusnet domain doesn't support Wordpress as that needs a database

The CCGI does but that isn't open for new accounts

Thanks Jim.

Damn - that's a shame.

No idea what CCGI is but will look into it.

Is it possible that GoDaddy would be a cheaper option for me?

There are a number of options depending on what you want to do

I use TSOHost and they are very good https://www.tsohost.com/web-hosting/wordpress-hosting

CCGI isn't something you can look into - it's plusnets own hosting service that allows server side scripts to be run.and used with a database. It used to be available to new customers on certain packages but PN withdrew it a long time ago and migrated existing customers CCGI accounts over to an external company. I think they still offer static hosting - but that only allows static html pages that do not "run".

000webhost offer free hosting but i don't think you can import your own domain (I could be wrong - been ages since i've logged into my account).

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!
