For two days I've been unable to access my First Direct banking app. They say they know nothing about the problem but I have read online that it is a problem with BT/Plusnet servers. When I try to login I get a message saying login failed, check internet connection. There is no problem with the connection for anything else. There was a suggestion to switch off router and try again, I did this without success.

If you're switching off to try to pick up a different IP address you need to leave it off for over an hour and then keep your fingers crossed as the addresses can be quite sticky.

Or for £5, you can have a fixed IP address from PlusNet that's UK registered. I had to do that in the end to use SystmOnline...

Are these £5 addresses the same thing as a dynamic address that never changes?

I paid £5 for a static address when I first joined Plusnet few years back. Been the same IP address ever since.
Dynamic addresses can and do change.That's why they are called Dynamic
