Bad dog!

Had a rather strange restart of my router earlier which I traced back to this

12:25:48, 29 Mar.	( 16.480000) System start

That is the only time that reason appears in the routers lifetime as the boot section of the event log goes back to when I first joined Plusnet

16:24:45, 29 Feb.	( 26.070000) System up, firmware version: 4.7.5.1.83.8.217
16:24:31, 29 Feb.	( 12.130000) System start

Hopefully it's just a one-off occurrence

It's done it again twice in the space of a couple of days and Google searches don't throw up any reason apart from the Hub One playing silly [-Censored-]s.

Spare Hub One in place now...

A watchdog timer is  used to detect freezes and crashes. The timer starts counting down and sends a signal to the operating system. If the operating system is alive it resets the timer before it get s to zero and the process repeats. If for some reason the operating system hangs or crashes, the timer doesn't reset and it triggers a reset of the CPU to reboot the device and get it working again.

For some reason, you're router is locking up or crashing and not resetting the timer before it counts down to zero and reboots the router.

Potential things to look at are, is the router getting too hot? Are the ventilation slots blocked up? Other possibility is you've just got a bad router.

The spare one didn't show any errors so the original must have been goosed.

Watch dogs are a bane.

I've been trying to write a script that allows my PC to suspend to RAM after a certain period of no keyboard input, and have a ACPI timer wake it up at 7:15am. Quite difficult.
