Backup software.

Can anyone recommend some good backup software.
I know there is a lot on the market and I had been thinking about Norton Ghost 15 but looking at the norton forums some people have had trouble with the installation etc.
So what are you using now and what would you recommend ?
It seems with some things the latest version of a program is the one with the most problems.

I'm a bit old fashioned, Three external drives that get upgraded every year /18months.
All my 'DATA" sits in a DATA directory on a separate drive. I just copy whole directories alternately between A, B and C drives. Then rename the DATA directory to DATA {date}.
Each external disk will take 2-3 times the "Data drive". Old disks become offsite storage.
I don't backup music, software, video clips, movies or OS (have the original disks).
Full backup takes maybe 3 hours, backup 5 maybe 6 times a month.
I very rarely 'archive' data, but if I do I copy to CD/DVD

If you want to backup the whole operating system Acronis is an option but if you only want to backup data I use SyncToy which is free from Miceosoft

I use a good one called drag and drop. It's part of a suite of useful gizmos provided by M$ in Windows but other vendors also support it
Seriously though, thats one of the best ways. As Journeys says, just date each backup. Alternatively use MS's SyncToy to keep all your copies of your data synchronised.

If you are looking at whole disk (or partition) backup  look at <a href="http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page">this </a> which is a bootable recovery system that lets you backup disks and partitions among other tasks (Free BTW). Ok it isn't integrated into M$ but at least then you are sure your files are closed when you back them up.

I use Clonezilla ( http://www.clonezilla.org/ ). Like the one biker suggested its a stand-alone boot from CD and can be used to image any system. Its perhaps a little less complicated then sysrescuecd because it only does backup. You can even put it on a USB stick ( its about 120Mb ) and use it to backup netbooks etc which maybe dont have DVD drives.
If its ONLY windows you want to backup then have a look at DIXML(http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm) which will do image backup/restore AND also allow selective restore.
