A 1TB size would be adequate which leaves the question - internal or external
There isn't much cost difference and as the access speed wouldn't really be a factor although USB2 (motherboard limit) would be a pain
Thoughts please on why I should consider an external one

Just realised - it would need connecting to my router - more cable to another room as there isn't a power supply available (I already have a 4 way splitter on the only plug near the router)

I am looking for something similar myself, can you let me know the make and size you eventually settle for.
Please PM me if you don't want to respond via the forum.
Thanks.

This one I would really question
Quote from: rongtw http://www.cclonline.com/product/27454/ST31000528AS/Hard-Drives/1TB-Seagate-Barracuda-7200-12-3-5-Ha...
Seagate7200.12 is SATA3 and looking elsewhere this particular model is old stock they are trying to get rid of http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/harddrives-internal/sata500gbto1tb/seagate/st31000528a...
to answer the other question I will probably go one of these two
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1tb-seagate-st31000524as-barracuda-720012-sata-6gb-s-7200rpm-32mb-cac... 36 month warranty as it isn't OEM
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1tb-western-digital-wd10ezrx-caviar-green-35-hdd-sata-iii-6gb-s-intel... 2 years nominal warranty but usually more after checking the serial number
Note - I get free delivery from Scan
EDIT - checking reviews I will be ordering the Seagate this evening so that is gets delivered on Thursday when I will be in

Also do a print out of the retaillers web page with the warranty visible on the printout.
I had issues with a rather large online retailler who advertised my drive as having a 3 year manufacturers warranty. When I got it and installed it I double checked the serial number and found it to be a 2 year warranty.
Going back to the retaillers site they had dropped all mention of the warranty. When I questioned this with them they told me I'd made a mistake and they had never offered the drive with 3 years warranty. This argument continued over a week or so until I offered to take my printout of their web page clearly showing the three year warranty to Trading Standards and let them take it from there.
Within half an hour I was asked for proof of this (obviously to check I wasn't bluffing) and an hour after sending a copy of what I had received a response that they would personally cover the extra year without an issue ......

Warranty 23 months
Checking with Scan - it is an error and the website should say 12 months
RMA initiated and the Western Digital drive ordered - should all be sorted on Monday
