BT reprograms biz customers as hotspots

Hi All
BT reprograms biz customers as hotspots
Quote
BT has begun transforming its commercial customers' Business Hubs into OpenZone hotspots for any passing Tom, Dick or Harry to share, and leaving businesses to figure out how to opt out of the scheme after the fact.

Re: BT reprograms biz customers as hotspots

Now that is how to do all your illegal P2P downloads without being caught courtesy of BT.
Without checking are all BT business users on unlimited with no FUP
I should have read the article first - what is this about OpenZone vouchers

Re: BT reprograms biz customers as hotspots

BT are part of the FON community www.fon.com BT hubs, both business and residential can be opened up as hotspots. If you go here you can find BT hotspots where you live. To use these hotspots you can either purchase access or if you are part of the community and share you connection then you can use other FON or BTFON connections fro free. FON is worldwide is a good system for free international roaming.

Re: BT reprograms biz customers as hotspots

It's all about a new version of the firmware for the 2700HGV ( aka BT Business Hub ). It has always had the ability to have 2 wireless SSID's and one used to be initally setup as BT_Fusion.
With version 6.x.x.x of the firmware they changed the BT_Fusion one for an Openzone and enabled it by default without seemingl;y bothering to tell people. They ( BT ) started triallling this firmware last year and then rolled it out to other customers a bit later. I posted a warning here a while ago http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,70246.0.html for other 2700HGV users. So far only BT Business Broadband customers seem to have been updated with the new firmware but in the past people using 2700HGV's on other ISP's have got earlier firmware updates.
Not sure how they would propose to tell people using other ISP's how to disable the OPenzone though!!! ( maybe that's why they havent sent the firmware update ).
That's not like BT to worry about little things like opening up people's network without warning...

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: BT reprograms biz customers as hotspots

Mass deployment of BT v6.1.1.48.1-enh.tm OpenZone firmware seems to have started a week or two ago.
My own hub was zapped last Thursday.
Hubs which are upgraded to v6 have OpenZone disabled by default.
But if you perform a factory reset of the hub, OpenZone is enabled by default.
