BBC iPlayer problems with Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and Adobe Air v3.5xxx update

BBC iPlayer problem Apple iMac Nov 2012
Mountain Lion 10.8.2
After a recent "auto" downloading Adobe Air v3.5, BBC iPlayer stopped downloading with error messages.
(29th October 2012 as I opened up BBC iPlayer)
I didn't download for a few days, so the obvious reason wasn't !
I eventually traced problem to the v3.5 Air update, and reverting back to v3.3 and v3.4 cured the problem.
I had to use the Air uninstaller first to remove v3.5, and also a file manager air search, as the uninstaller wouldn't at first.
These older versions are available here...
http://mac.filehorse.com/download-adobe-air/old-versions/
I usually save older Air .dmgs anyway, but not v3.4 for some reason !
Most miffed because I lost unwatched downloads in trying to trace the reason.
I now Time Machine these downloads, I didn't before (15GB+) as they kept changing.

There was a similar problem in June 2012, whereby BBC & Adobe didn't talk to each other when incompatible updates were issued.
One week later, there was an update to BBC iPlayer & Adobe Flash that cured the different problem then, a blank screen on replay, full screen

Shouldn't you just use Get iPlayer Automator or is the schedule downloads required?
That's RPM to you!!

Thanks.
I'll give it a try.
I also use iPlayer+ as a download tool for BBC programmes.
Now I have re-instated my SKY+HD subs (50% for a year, £50 cashback) , the Web based BBC iPlayer on my iMac  is really just a backup for recordings, and On Demand downloads, especially now I have them in HD.

Nice suggestion thanks, it works well and downloads in High Quality too.
Upon saving the .dmg where I save all my .dmg's, I noticed I actually downloaded a previous version December last year, wonder why I didn't use it then !
Perhaps because maximum quality is only High, whereas BBC iPlayer downloads true HD, if available, albeit time restricted on viewing.

Re: BBC iPlayer problems with Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and Adobe Air v3.5xxx update

There is now a statement about this, from the BBC.
http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/announcements/ipd_air_contentdisappear

The important part of the statement...
BBC iPlayer Desktop - Why am I unable to install new content and why have I lost downloaded content since installing the latest version of Adobe Air?
Search iPlayer Questions
***Updated 09 November 2012***
We have replicated the fault and are currently in discussion with our service partner in finding a resolution, which occurs if the latest version of Adobe Air (3.5) is installed.
If you have Adobe Air 3.5 Installed you may not be able to download new programmes, including series catch-up downloads and any programmes already downloaded may have disappeared.

There has been an update to Air from  3.4.0.2540   to   3.4.0.2710 which is now available (Auto download when BBC iPlayer opened)
Seems to work OK.

get_iplayer still works.
I have never installed any Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Air, because they are rubbish.
For the same reason, I have never signed up for the BBC download feature.
And yet it still works...

I prefer BBC iPlayer because I can download in HD, whereas get_iplayer max resolution is only High Quality, a noticeable difference, but I do download on both, as backups.
And of course, BBC iPlayer only downloads BBC programmes !

get_iplayer can download 720p, if you call that HD.

There is a noticeable difference when comparing the same programme on both at the same time.

As far as broadcast TV goes,  that's as good as it gets at the moment!

Very interesting comparison!
But I think I would only notice the difference if I get two televisions and put them side by side.  Grin Grin Grin

Remember, It's on my iMac computer ( which I run at 1920 x 1080 ) , not on TV.

Re: BBC iPlayer problems with Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and Adobe Air v3.5xxx update

I have a 24" 1080 x 1920 PC monitor - but the same video appears to be of higher quality if the computer source is played (via ip) on a 32" "HD ready" television.
I don't know why this is.
