Re: Avast buying rival AVG

If they do roll the AVG product into Avast, I'm going to have to find a new AV - tried Avast on my stand-by machine and had nothing but trouble. I can't afford that hassle on my main one.

Re: Avast buying rival AVG

I guess that means mother Russia has figured out its no longer wise to run two spyware companies so long after the cold war ended especially since they've allegedly been caught red handed with stolen IP in their new military hardware via their built in back door on a certain defence contractors system.... probably makes sense to trim the fat and be rid of the dead wood now, not to worry I'm sure plenty more scareware companies will rise up keep the premier spy system on point to ensure they know all of nato's secret developments being undertaken by dross contractors .....

What on earth are you on about - they have their roots in the Czech Republic which just happens to be in the EU and both companies are listed on the New York Stock Exchange

Re: Avast buying rival AVG

it was a member of the ussr until 89 avast & avg were founded in the mid 80's before they stopped beign part of the USSR and just like hundreds of other companies that were formed under the KGB they have been listed on stock exchanges around the world, its not a big secret that Russia pumps billions around the worlds money markets propping up various countries to ensure stability via its "legitimate" operations to make it all look kosher to the uninitiated, Germany was part of the EU from the start but part of it only joined in the 90's after the frau merkle left the stasi and took up political office, yet several "german" companies established towards the end of the occupation years before unification took place were also found to be distributing spyware that reported home to their former masters (who hade their name changed to FSB and continued to operate as per the KGB....)

oh what short memories some folks have

Think you'll find Czechoslovakia had ties with the USSR but was not part of itSmiley

Re: Avast buying rival AVG

until the Prague spring took place that might of been true but the Warsaw pact steamrolled t hem for trying to declare independence  when it did at which point it became a fully federalised member of the soviet union and remained so until late 89 when the iron curtain fell and the various former member states went their own way

Re: Avast buying rival AVG

Regardless of that - why do you think that the USSR is still controlling them, if they ever did, which was what you implied in your original post

Re: Avast buying rival AVG

well allegedly the newest batch of Russian military gear utilised top secret tech from a military contractor that just happened to have been compromised and remotely accessed through a back door built into the security suite that had been "protecting" its files that intrusion was then allegedly back traced thru said security vendors servers to a certain intelligence bureau that just happened to be running an R&D facility that "created" the breakthrough tech that went on to be used in those new Russian high tech equipment....

and its not the first time something similar has happened and it probably wont be the last time, of course it helps that the stolen intel was faulty and people looked a bit idiotic when the giant tank melted its engine to slagheap instead of joining the march past .....
