Audio Player (for Mac or Windows)

I'm looking for an audio player which will play MP3s... but it must offer the ability to fade the music down after a set time limit so that after (say an hour) it will be silent... I used to have one many years ago, but I can't remember what it was called
Basically I want to be able to tell the laptop to play music while I go to sleep that'll gradually fade itself out.

Audacity allows to to put an envelope onto your MP3, so you could start at full volume and drag the envelope down to zero after your preferred  time, use the fade out under effects

I think what the OP is looking for is something that will play a playlist of mp3s, not just a single track. Few of us are blessed with the ability to fall asleep within 3 minutes of settling down at night

basically what you are looking for is something with a sleep timer then?
I can suggest an audio system that will play MP3 CDs and has a sleep timer (though it does not fade out)

you can stack MP3 together on Audacity, I have several of over an hour, then you just fade down the last - say 20 mins.  And its free  see below 6 tracks stacked together

Winamp does have a fadeout option but only works at the end of a playlist

I take what you want is to gradually decrease the volume over time.
Have you looked for plugins for Windows Media Player etc on SourceForge?
