Asus Eee & Option 2 free router

I've a friend who has an Asus Eee and no ISP, does anyone know if the Linux based Asus (no CD/DVD drive) & the free router with option 2 are compatible? If so, is the router standalone, or does it require a desktop to be plugged in to setup?
They mentioned phoning BT, but due to my great experience with Plusnet, I would like to give them another option.

The router is compatible.
However, to configure the wireless security, its generally a requirement to use a cable to the router initially.
Do Eee's have Cat5 network sockets? (I have a suspicion not)

In that case, the OP's friend will be able to do the complete setup using the web browser on the Eee.
