Asus DSL-AC68U

I'm having problems getting online with the Asus AC68U modem/router - over the last few months, it just fails to connect with no apparent reason why after weeks of connection - I'm now online after connecting a TP-Link TD-W8960N after spending the last 30 minutes of trying to connect with the Asus, the TP-Link worked straight away.  What I would like to happen is use the TP-Link (because it's more stable) as the modem with the Asus as the router.  I understand I could link the two as a bridge, is there any clear/simple instructions for me to do this.

Re: Asus DSL-AC68U

Just wondered which firmware version you are running on the Asus - some of the earlier ones were known to be somewhat 'flakey'. If you haven't done so already, might be worth upgrading to the latest version before giving up on it as a modem.

Re: Asus DSL-AC68U

I upgraded the firmware a few weeks ago, I'm losing patience slightly, this is my second Asus router. Returned the first and got a replacement. What concerns me more, it will go weeks without any problems then it decides it won't connect so I eventually tried the TP-Link and was up and running in a few minutes. The Asus isn't cheap and I'd expect it to be more stable.

Re: Asus DSL-AC68U

So if I'm connected direct to the phone docket (not fibre) do I keep the internet connection settings as ADSL WAN or change to VDSL WAN.

Re: Asus DSL-AC68U

No, VDSL WAN is only for fibre (FTTC) connections.

Re: Asus DSL-AC68U

That's what I thought, just looking at posts in the other forums for Asus AC68 mention VDSL. I'm back up and running but fed up with the router not connecting after weeks of it being stable. Hoping someone could advise me of the best settings to use.

Re: Asus DSL-AC68U

Could you show us the ADSL stats please?

I recall some Asus models couldn't connect on ADSL2+ with a 3dB target SNRM.

Re: Asus DSL-AC68U

The DLM may have automatically lowered the target SNRM - this is a good thing as it would have given you more bandwidth. The DLM may have now increased it so now the Asus can connect.

Re: Asus DSL-AC68U

so is there anything I can do in the settings or my provider to prevent this in future.

Re: Asus DSL-AC68U

Two things occur to me:

1) it may be worth doing a 'hardware reset' using the small button on the back of the router, especially as you have previously installed some firmware updates. This does entail the tedious process of reentering all the settings again, but it can fix connection issues;

2) turn off all the Digital Line Management (DLM) options on the Administration | DSL Setting page, or set them to their default values, as they can otherwise conflict with BTOR's own DLM and cause instability.
