Re: Apple OSX 10.9 Mavericks now available..... and it's a FREE Upgrade

I installed Mavericks this morning, installation took an hour, in two parts.
No problems at all.
Still getting to know it, but it looks very good so far.
Well worth the cost of the Upgrade !!
The Desktop image is a lot brighter than it was with 10.8.5, getting used to it.
All my Applications opened so far, Commercial ( MS Office, Toast etc) and others, no conflicts.
I now just need to download ( again FREE) iLife including...iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband the Maverick Versions.
Downloading 3GB !
Just need to change my sig image....

Not for me it isn't Sad I have mac mini.
I installed it on my iPhone 5 for 2.99 GBP (some reason my pound logo is giving me a hash # shift + 3) and quite complicated to use.

it's only free if you've bought a new iOS device or Mac. Obviously updates are free if you've purchased it before.

Re: Apple OSX 10.9 Mavericks now available..... and it's a FREE Upgrade

But I had iMovie on OSX Mountain Lion!!
I am very angry with apple and I Demand to get these apps back for free.  These apps were with my computer and carried on when I upgraded to mountain lion from OSX Lion
This is probably why it was free.

They upgraded for me without any issue at all, without further cost.
Assume iMovie is still installed on your machine from Mountain Lion?

Re: Apple OSX 10.9 Mavericks now available..... and it's a FREE Upgrade

Previous OSX versions of some apps don't work with Mavericks, it may be a hardware problem, have you checked compatibility ?
Perhaps when you downloaded Mavericks, it should have flagged that it should not have installed on your configuration ?
I have tried to use the Mountain Lion version of Mail, it will not load under Mavericks.

Re: Apple OSX 10.9 Mavericks now available..... and it's a FREE Upgrade

Can't really offer any advice on OSX I'm afraid, but NorthEastener - that pound sign issue sounds like a keyboard layout thing? Your upgrade has probably changed the locale (and hence the keyboard layout) to US from UK, not sure why, but whenever I have that issue I need to change the layout back to UK.
Hope that helps.

Re: Apple OSX 10.9 Mavericks now available..... and it's a FREE Upgrade

I wiped my mountain lion system as it was full to download mavericks
I am hoping to try and restore mountain lion on my mac mini
Advice on this would be great so basically I just want to downgrade  Undecided
Also on my Macbook 2010 (white unibody) it still has the iMovie, iPhoto (all iLife apps) even though I upgraded macbook to mavericks as well.
This is strange!! could it be due to the fact I restored my mac mini to factory, but hence when I got it from Apple store and set it up it had all the iLife (iMovie, iPhoto, garageband etc...)  with it except pages etc...
Really need to sort this out, as I am going to create a movie about my Dubai holiday trip and wife wants it sorted  Sad
Not happy with Apple!!  Angry

What process did you use to 'reset to factory' on the Mac mini?
That's RPM to you!!

Re: Apple OSX 10.9 Mavericks now available..... and it's a FREE Upgrade

that's your problem, if you didn't reinstall iLife from your original disk with the machine you wouldn't be eligible for the free upgrade

Re: Apple OSX 10.9 Mavericks now available..... and it's a FREE Upgrade

But how is it different from out of the box???
thats where I don't understand, I thought it should automatically install the iLife like when I first got Mac Mini,  this is not good!!!
I am not paying £25 at the max for both programs
p.s £ pound sign working now, was in US mode
Well Apple is going to to some explaining about this
