AppStore updates

On MacBook

New-ish MacBook (couple of months now), El Capitan.

This is different. Updates now seem to happen via AppStore?

Question for those familiar with this - how big are these updates likely to be these days?

On Wednesday had an 861MB haul (unknown to me until checking PlusNet bandwith).

Saturday another 300MB, then this evening another 400.

Had to check logs to find out what was happening and appears to be software updates, and an Apple IP. But seems like a heck of a lot to me, having only just had an update the previous week.

Upshot is - had to increase my monthly allowance as I'm about to go over.

This is almost as annoying as MS updates! (Download first, ask later.)

(Yep, have switched the auto update off now)

Have there been any big updates lately? They don't warn you or anything...

Re: AppStore updates

the app store will tell you how big each update is.
updates happen all the time, and the app store provides updates to both apps and the OS.
as you had auto updates enables then it went and did what you allowed it to do.

as you had auto update enabled, it only warns you when it has to reboot due to an update.
otherwise it does what you allowed it to do and download and install in the background.

Re: AppStore updates

Yep, that's what I figured. (Been stuck on Snow Leopard for years, was all different.)

Was just amazed at the size of these updates. Never used to be anything of that magnitude!

Btw, where does it tell you how big update is? It tells me there are updates pending but not seen any mention of size.

Edit -- Think I must have had it set to download but don't install yet

Re: AppStore updates

if there are updates available (via the update icon in the app store), it should have the file size next to it.

Re: AppStore updates

Just went ahead with the updates. Along with the 1.5GB already downloaded (apparently, according to PlusNet), there were lots more. Must be about 3GB altogether. All now installed.

The sizes were shown once you click update, but didn't see before. Anyways, no matter. Shock over. All done now!

But now have another question re PlusNet allowances which I'll post elsewhere.
