no but you can do both if you wish
I would say with 3 buying so many E220 from china that the faulty ones are bined I guess they only paid less than £5 so its not worth them checking them.
But I did unlock my 3 n95 phone and de-branded it and i broke the screen 2 weeks later they still repaired the phone free of charge
