Anyone identify This?

If it helps, it came with my Fritzbox 7350.

Re: Anyone identify This?

As that router can handle DECT phones I would hazard a guess as a phone adapter.

Re: Anyone identify This?

 I kind of wondered if that was the case, @Browni . As I tend to keep boxes for things like routers and the like, I'' leave it in the box when I put it away - might be useful if/when I get FTTP. 👍

@jab1

Could it be an ADSL Filter - as per "What's in the Box" from the quick start guide.

Re: Anyone identify This?

Nope, @bmc - I have one of those as well - white, as they usually are, but won't be needed unless I have to use the test socket - I have a 5C/Mk.4 set-up.

Re: Anyone identify This?

@jab1

Further to what @Browni said above, not just DECT, but some (maybe all?) Fritz!Box versions handle VoIP as well, so you may be able to play around with that without having to lay out for more kit.

I can't see from your photo, but what type of plug/sockets does the unit have?

Re: Anyone identify This?

@RobPN The other end is very nearly the same as the one that plugs into a base station from the master socket, only very slightly smaller.

The 7530 is VoIP compatible.

So, stupid question time - have you read every bit of paper that came in the packing?

Re: Anyone identify This?

Not a stupid question, but so far as I remember, yes. Been doing other things, and I don't go 'live' until - hopefully - Thursday, so not been that diligent.

Re: Anyone identify This?

Maybe time to grab a free Sipgate Basic telephone number for incoming VoIP calls @jab1 , just because you can!  Wink

(No ongoing charges and no need to spend any money with them for outgoing calls unless you choose to)

Re: Anyone identify This?

Interesting, @RobPN  - although I only use the LL for incoming or 0800-type outgoing calls, and I thought you had to have a copper circuit for FTTC? I may be totally wrong, but I'm sure someone will put me right. All my outgoing calls are made on the mobile - 'SMARTY' @£5.00/month.

Re: Anyone identify This?

Yes, you do have to retain a copper line for VDSL @jab1 so the VoIP wouldn't replace that, but no harm in having an extra VoIP service, even if you won't make much use of it ATM! Wink

Sipgate allow free 0800 calls over their free VoIP lines in case that's of interest.

Re: Anyone identify This?

Cheers, @RobPN , something for me to examine in more detail when I get connected up and finish the other little jobs I'm on at the moment. Expect lots of questions.😀

Re: Anyone identify This?

@jab1 get a free sipgate account as @RobPN  suggests and have a play with it. Then when you get FTTP you can do away with the landline but retain your number by porting it to sipgate

Re: Anyone identify This?

@MisterW , @RobPN - as both of you have suggested this, I will do so, but in the very near future. As I said, I want to get the switch and associated odds and ends sorted first, then ask questions before I venture into unknown territory. My innate caution and ageing brain combine to make me double check any 'leaps into the dark' these days.Smiley
