I think I have a similar issue with KB3004394, and the same error code 80070490 which has no useful online help associated with it.

TG for backups! There were 14 updates and I installed them one by one, backing up after each one. On the eleventh it failed so I just hid that one and completed the rest.
I had no trouble with KB3033929 though!

The KB article includes:
Quote Some users cannot install this security update if their computers meet the following conditions:
Have a multiple-boot configuration of Windows and various distributions of Linux
Use a non-Windows boot loader
Have Windows and Linux installed on separate drives
It's just that the stupidity of requiring explicit action to load the details of the patch usually results in not viewing such messages, especially for a large (>10) set of patches
