Another botched Windows Update - KB3033929

Windows Update KB2949927, previously discussed in http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,132934.0.html, has now resurfaced as KB3033929 in the March updates, and caused serious problems for many Windows 7 users (although not me this time, fortunately!). This page http://krebsonsecurity.com/2015/03/ms-update-3033929-causing-reboot-loop/ gives a little more detail.

Re: Another botched Windows Update - KB3033929

KB3033929 failed several times to install on my W7x64 system, so after checking what it did (nothing useful to me) I just hid it.
I think I have a similar issue with KB3004394, and the same error code 80070490 which has no useful online help associated with it.  Crazy

Re: Another botched Windows Update - KB3033929

Have you ever found a Microsoft error code that did have useful online help associated with it?

Re: Another botched Windows Update - KB3033929

Annoyingly, I accidentally left scheduled updates "on" and had a few reboots/update fails with this item before I "hid" it - though you cannot expect Win7 update to spot Grub2 and Linux/Win7 dual boot as they are not in the Win7 partition Crazy

Re: Another botched Windows Update - KB3033929

I had nothing but trouble last week with the March updates. Finally tracked it down to KB3036493 which refused to complete the install and prevented a reboot!
TG for backups! There were 14 updates and I installed them one by one, backing up after each one. On the eleventh it failed so I just hid that one and completed the rest.
I had no trouble with KB3033929 though!

Re: Another botched Windows Update - KB3033929

no problems with any of this months updates for me, seems to be a problem that only affected people who's existing cab file(s) were corrupted, probably a similar situation to the update that bricked every system with an undetected virus on it from 2 years ago just not quite as drastic a problem (at least a reboot loop you can invoke safe mode and get out of it )

The KB article includes:

Some users cannot install this security update if their computers meet the following conditions:
Have a multiple-boot configuration of Windows and various distributions of Linux
    Use a non-Windows boot loader
Have Windows and Linux installed on separate drives
