Another Vodafone Sure Signal Issue

Hi all
So I have a Vodafone Sure Signal, version 3.
Whilst it works intermittently, the main issue I have is that I have to stand up to 6 feet away from it to make and recieve calls. Outside this area then then I have next to no signal.
I am in a wide open space and Sure Signal is connected to mains and directly plugged into router.
Its been like this for a few weeks now.
I thought, this would provide full signal to most of a house (within 20 feet) at least.
Vodafone are next to useless in helping me, and a brief search online and cant really find a solution.
I have restarted everything, disconnected and tried again.
I could do a proper reset, tho this does take up to 24 odd hours for it to restart services, which I cant really afford, to do as I have zero reception in my village.
Can anyone help?
Would using a BT home hub 5 be any better at all? I'm considering using this instead of the plusnet router.
Any thoughts?

I have now changed to BT Home Hub 5, hoping to see if this makes any change.
I have also used the following guide to open up ports of the router:
