Android update 5.0

Tablet has automatically downloaded (but not installed) 5.0 software update, I think the current version is 4.4
Is it wise to install new updates on Android if everything is currently working ok or do these updates include security updates ?

Re: Android update 5.0

My HTC ONE m7 has been on Lollipop for a while now and been OK. My Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 got it a few weeks ago and has also been OK. It does seem to have increased the speed slightly and the tablet interface seems slicker.

Re: Android update 5.0

Thanks,
Installed it,
some message appeared saying it was flashing the boot up or something.
Seems to work fine since upgrade.

Actually 5.1.1 "Lollipop" is the current version, though 5.0 is the first version of Lollipop, released back in November... Smiley

Re: Android update 5.0

whilst 5.1.1 is the most current base version of android, it's not necessarily the most current version of android for any particular device.
it depends on the manufacturer as to which is the most current version they have made available.

Re: Android update 5.0

Usually the "Nexus" devices tend to be the ones with the latest base versions (not manufacturer specific, no bloatware, just bone-stock Android), it takes the various manufacturers months to get the initial releases ready to upload to their devices, and then a couple more months for the various networks round the world to add their bloatware to said releases... Smiley
And for the record my S5 is on 5.0 with the Three version of the OS release...

Re: Android update 5.0

Android Lollipop introduced a whole new selection of problems to the o/s, the most frustrating of which seem to be wifi problems. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/ . Whether your device suffers from them seems to be dependent on which one it is and pure luck!
If you experience browsing problems it's because some cache files don't like Lollipop, so delete the cache regularly.

My Samsung Galaxy Tab 4, touch wood, seems OK.
And I'm using 5G from an Asus router.
