Android.. need to uninstall some preinstalled apps.. that were uninstalled but left behind

Howdy..

So my trusty phone came with preinstalled apps. Among them was eBay. Yesterday I got an email from ebay saying i needed to upgrade to the latest v5 of the app as the current one will stop working in 2018.

So.. after hitting the play store app and looking in my list of installed apps i realised it wasn't there. Odd. Then i went into apps in the settings screen and found it there. Went back to play app and searched for new ebay app.. lo and behold it offers me the open or uninstall options so i hit uninstall. I did wonder why it didn't show up in the upgrade list..

Anyway so then i've gone to install the new version and ended up with a 505 error that it can't install it. Cleared download cache, app cache, downgraded play store app, changed the clock, turned off network time and so many other things... it still wouldn't install.

So then i had a rummage around using Xplore (file manager). Despite NOT being rooted it can still read the protected files. Lo and behold in /vendor/operator/app/eBay/ there is a file called ebay.apk. So much for the uninstall!

So how can i get rid of this undeleteable file and get the current version installed? - eBay are offering a £10 bribe to get me to use the latest.. and i need it as i need to order something specialist from them!

You may need to root your phone first.

You can normally update an app even if it is pre-installed. What is stopping it being updated?

The lack of an upgrade button in the google play app... and it not showing up in the updates available list.

The only options i had was to uninstall via the play app.. but that leaves the original .apk file in place which can't be deleted and trying to install the new version is bringing up an error with a 505 code.

Nib I just tried that app and it failed to do the job too. Apk files are still there and I still can't install the latest ebay app.

Do remove pre-installed apps you normally need root access. If the phone isn't rooted then doing it will be difficult.
Have you searched for a rooting app for it? You only need to root it for long enough to remove the apk.
You could try Titanium backup and freeze/disable the app but I think that needs root to do it.

I have no idea where to start for rooting a phone! Can it be un-rooted afterwards?

The phone is a medion E5004 made by lenovo. I don't know what Lenovo refer to it has internally / hardware wise so i've no idea where to start.

If someone's found a way to root it it'll be on there. I did have a cursory glance, but didn't see anything for that particular model, though.there is for other Medion devices. 

I think you're probably on a hiding to nothing here tbh, support for devices of this ilk are often little to non existent...
